Note From Leslie

Dear Friends:

I want to thank you for placing your confidence in me, and giving me the opportunity to serve you on the Lake County Board of County Commissioners. Since being elected as the District 4 Commissioner, I have worked hard to address concerns residents have brought to me, and I have stayed focused on the following goals:

* Hold down property taxes
* Improve efficiency and accountability of local government
* Facilitate a strong local economy and vibrant quality of life

A "vibrant quality of life" can take on various meanings depending on our personal interests and priorities. Some Lake County residents believe it is impossible to have a vibrant qualify of life without good roads, excellent schools, low crime, and access to quality healthcare. For other Lake County residents, their quality of life is defined by active parks with amenities such as ballfields, pickle ball courts and bike trails; and other residents believe that a vibrant quality of life means clean waterways, well protected natural resources, and a caring community that helps those who are in need, including supporting programs such as a no-kill public animal shelter.

I believe that an effective county commissioner melds together these various priorities while assuring we maintain a low tax rate, an affordable cost of living, a strong economy and a local government that lives within its means. Often it requires creativity, passion and common sense to find ways to meet the needs of our community while still living within our means.

I remain committed to regularly examining every aspect of County government to assure that residents are receiving quality services in the most efficient manner.

As one of the fastest growing communities in Florida, Lake County and particularly the municipalities in our county are facing tremendous growth pressures from new residential development. We must be proactive in guarding our quality of life and protecting our unique character while honoring property rights and adhering to the rule of law. We must set our standards high and work hard to protect our rural lands and the qualities that attract new residents to our county. Due to the immense pressure on our municipalities to approve new residential projects, city and county residents should urge city and county officials to use joint planning tools and appropriate regulations to assure that growth does not overburden our roads, ruin our environment, or degrade our quality of life.

We must continue to attract a healthy mix of job opportunities and high wage career paths for Lake County residents by recruiting companies that are a good fit with our community. A strong local economy helps keep our cost of living and millage rates low.

Again, thank you for the opportunity to serve you. I would truly appreciate your support as I run for re-election as your County Commissioner in District 4.* Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. Feel free to contact me regarding any matters that are important to you.

Sincerely,

Leslie
